More information

Though completely aimed at the comforts of modern life, this house has lots of charm. The house is a museum all in itself. This 350-year-old house, listed on the historical registry, has all the charm of an authentic house, yet all the comforts for modern life. This comfortably furnished 110 m2, three-bedroom apartment is located on the Herengracht canal in the nine streets area.

This apartment is housed in a beautifully-restored 17th century building. This was one of the earlier houses that was built along the Herengracht. The gable is a classical renaissance crow-stepped gable; this is a stair-step type of design at the top of the triangular gable-end of a building. It gives a hint of what can be expected inside this house. You will find many books, websites and even porcelain statues of this building as it is viewed as a typical Amsterdam classical renaissance house.

Inside you still see many original features, such as wooden beams, wooden floors and wooden circular stairs. Everything is very much like it was when it was first built. Most buildings from the 17th century have been changed much over the past 300 years, whereas this one has stayed the same.

Location description

When walking out the door one finds him/her self in the “nine streets” area. The nine streets area is known for its restaurants, boutique shops, and its beautiful canals. This shopping area is in nine narrow streets within the canal belt. It is distinctly different from other shopping districts as there is a large diversity of privately owned shops.

Staircases

This apartment is one flight up and has two internal flights. In historic buildings in Amsterdam many of the staircases are steeper than most people are used to. The flights are between moderately steep and steep. Safety for children is medium as the staircases themselves are not open, but closed off with doors.
